Proposition 50 allows California's Legislature, not the independent Redistricting Commission, to draw congressional district lines for three election cycles (2026-2030). Supporters claim it's temporary, but critics call it a dangerous step backward.
WHAT PROPOSITION 50 DOES
. Transfers congressional redistricting power from the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission to the Legislature.
Applies to elections in 2026, 2028, and 2030.
. Returns authority to the independent commission after the 2030 Census.
. Expected to cost taxpayers a few million dollars for redrawing maps and updating systems.
WHY YOU SHOULD OPPOSE PROPOSITION 50
Undermines independent oversight and opens the door to political gerrymandering.
Sets a dangerous precedent for politicians to seize power from voters.
Reduces competitiveness and fairness in congressional races.
Weakens transparency and accountability in how representatives are chosen.
Increases the advantage for Senator Pan (extreme legislator who authored SB277 & SB276 removing personable belief exemptions and almost all medical exemptions in California) in his run for Congress. Prop 50 gives him an advantage to win his seat. We can NEVER let him have power again. Do not be complacent. Get out there and vote.
